Australian Scholarships

University funding is easier to get in the United States than in
U.K., Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Most students who go to
Australia and U.K. are self funded students.
Citizens and permanent residents of India may consider applying
for the programmes listed below. Please note that this list is
just a starting point and that other eligibility criteria apply.
Australian Leadership Awards – Scholarships
Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships You are now leaving

assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic
policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own
countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. Scholarships are
provided for longer-term
postgraduate study at masters or doctoral level.
Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)
A new award under which the Australian Government offers
scholarships and fellowships for current and future leaders from
the Asia-Pacific Region. ALAs provide exceptional educational
opportunities in Australia. They are awarded to people who are
already leaders or have a potential to assume leadership roles
that can influence social and economic policy reform and
development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia
and Pacific region. ALAs provide scholarships for longer-term
post-graduate study at masters or doctoral level and fellowships
for short-term research, study or professional attachments. The
Award will bring around 3200 scholars and fellows in the five
years from 2006-2011 to study in Australia. Managed by AusAID as
part of Australia's overseas aid program, ALAs are open only to
citizens of countries in the region that have a current Australian
aid program. The Awards will
be available to present and future leaders and personnel in
corporate, academic, non-government and government services.
Endeavour Asia Awards
The Endeavour Asia Awards You are now leaving the DEST website
provide financial support for high achieving postgraduate students
from China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia,
Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam to undertake an Australian
higher degree or research in any field of study (towards a degree
from your home country). Award holders must spend a minimum of one
semester (four months) and a maximum of three years in Australia.
Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards
The Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards You are now leaving

postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to undertake
research in any field of study for four to six months.
They are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
* China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia,
Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam to research in Australia; and *
Australia to research in China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia,
Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Endeavour Postgraduate Awards
The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards You are now leaving the DEST
website provide full financial support for international students
for up to 3.5 years to undertake a Masters level or higher
qualification either by coursework or research in any field of
study in Australia, which includes a semester of English language
training (if required).
Endeavour Research Fellowships
The Endeavour Research Fellowships You are now leaving the

and postdoctoral fellows:
* From participating countries to undertake short-term research,
in any field of study, in Australia; and
* From Australia to undertake short-term research, in any field of
study, in participating outgoing countries.
Endeavour Executive Awards

high achieving professionals in business, industry, education or
government to work in an associated field for one to four months
in a participating host country.
Endeavour Executive Awards are offered to citizens/permanent
residents of:
* Australia to go to participating countries
* Participating countries to come to Australia.
Along with applications from individuals, DEST will accept
nominations from organisations for one or more people to be
considered for an Endeavour Executive Award.
Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships
(IPRS)
Applications for Endeavour IPRS You are now leaving the DEST
website are made directly through participating higher education
institutions.
Scholarships are open to international students of all countries
(except New Zealand) and are available for a period of two years
for a Masters by research degree or three years for a Doctorate by
research degree. The Scholarship covers tuition fees and health
cover costs for Scholarship holders, and health cover costs for
their dependants.
Endeavour Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) Awards
The Endeavour Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) Awards

countries in the Asia-Pacific region to undertake vocational and
technical education at a Diploma or Advanced Diploma level at an
Australian institution (public and private providers). They will
provide formal
qualifications for new and existing workers, and provide the
opportunity for participants to learn new technologies and methods
of working. Awards are open to all fields of study.
Endeavour India Research Fellowships
The Endeavour India Research Fellowships, managed by
Australia's Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST),
aims to enable high achieving postgraduate students and
postdoctoral fellows from India to undertake short-term research
in any field of study in Australia for a period of four to six
months with funding paid on a pro-rata basis. The Fellowships
provide financial support to five (5) Indian scholars valued at up
to A$25,000. The benefits include; travel allowance of A$5,000;
establishment allowance of A$5,000; and a monthly stipend of
A$2,500 for up
to six months. The funds are not available to support accompanying
dependants.
Fellowships are offered to citizens/permanent residents of:
* India to research in Australia; and
* Australia to research in India.
Endeavour India Executive Awards
Endeavour India Executive Awards You are now leaving the DEST

Australia or India for one to four months.
They are offered to:
* Australian citizens/permanent residents to go to India; and
* Indian citizens/permanent residents to come to Australia.
Endeavour Student Exchange Programme
* Endeavour Student Exchange Programme You are now leaving the
DEST website funding is provided to Australian Universities (not
students) - individual students are not eligible to apply for
funding under the Endeavour Student Exchange Programme. Australian
higher education institutions are eligible to apply.
* If you are a student who wishes to apply contact the
International Office of the educational institution where you are
currently studying and ask them if they are participating in the
Endeavour Student Exchange programme.
Under the Programme, Australian higher education institutions will
receive funding to subsidise the cost of their establishing and
monitoring, and of undergraduate students’ participation in,
eligible student exchanges with registered higher education
institutions in a number of countries.
In the 2008 funding round, funding will be available to support
similar arrangements in the vocational and technical education
sector.
In-coming exchange students will be sourced from the following
countries:
* Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran,
Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the
Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand,
Timor-Leste, Vietnam, Yemen.
Out-going Australian students may study in the following
countries:
* Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Fiji, India,
Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, New
Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines,
Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria,
Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkey, Vietnam, Yemen.
Supported students are required to study full-time and for at
least one semester and a maximum of two semesters in a counterpart
institution under institution-to-institution student exchange
arrangements.
Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF)
The AISRF is a component of Australian Scholarships announced by
the Hon Julie Bishop MP and the Hon Alexander Downer MP on 26
April 2006. As part of the Australian Scholarships package, $20
million of funding will be provided over five years commencing in
FY 2006/07 for collaborative research activities between Australia
and India through the AISRF. The AISRF aims to facilitate and
support Science and Technology research cooperation between
Australia and India. The fund will assist Australian researchers
to increase their participation in leading
edge scientific research with Indian scientists, to raise the
profile of Australian research, and to support the development of
strategic alliances between Australian researchers and Indian
researchers. The Department of Education, Science and Technology
(DEST) now have a publicly accessible website and guidelines for
the AISRF. The Australia-India Strategic Research Fund You are now

provide up to $20 million of Australian funding over five years
commencing in financial year 2006/07 for collaborative research
activities between Australia and India.
The fund will support Australian participation in scientific
symposia and bilateral research projects in mutually beneficial
priority research areas.
