Australian Admission : Test Requirements
Is GMAT or GRE compulsory for admission?
GRE is NOT required for admission to Australian universities.
However, IELTS is compulsory for student visa.
GMAT is required by some universities for the MBA program.
I have taken TOEFL. Is IELTS compulsory?
YES. Irrespective of the medium of instruction in your
previous school, you have to take IELTS. Even if you have already
taken TOEFL, you have to take IELTS. This is compulsory
requirement for the student visa for applicants from India.
Now some universities started accepting TOEFL iBT. Please check it
with your respective universities.
TOEFL is just fine with Australia
COME JULY 2007 TOFEL — The English language proficiency test-will
open doors for Indian students in Australia too At present,
students who are seeking admission to colleges and universities
Australia and the US simultaneously have to appear for two
different English language proficiency tests – IELTS and TOEFL. A
change in will allow international students to use TOEFL scores
for a admission to institutions down under. This would spare
students the hassle of appearing for two separate and different
tests.
The Australian immigration policy made English speaking countries.
It made International English Language Testing system (IELTS) the
standard exam to test English language proficiency. IELTS is man
aged by British Council University of Cambridge IDP Australia.
Negotiations by the Princeton – based ETS has meant that from July
2007, international students who require to take an English
language proficiency test will have the option of IELTS and TOEFL.
Gena Netten, TOEFL marketing manager, ETS said; “We have been in
discussion with the Australian immigration department. As a matter
of fact, the state department has also been involved in these
talks. The idea is that in the interest of fair trade, they
(Australians) should accept the TOEFL.”
Nearly 27,000 Indian student chose Australia their dents chose
Australia as their destination in 2005. Making TOEFL and option as
a language proficiency test will mean that students don’t have to
foreclose options. The number of TOEFL Test takers has been on the
rise in India, from 37,500 in 2004 to 60,000 in 2005. It is
projected to reach the 61,000 mark this year. Greater
acceptability of TOEFL could see a surge in the number of test
takers in India. |
