Top 10 Essay Writing Books

This best part of this book is that it has a large section
(50+ pages) on how to gather the raw material on your life
that can help you find the material for your essay. If you
have no idea who your hero is or what adversity you've
overcome, this will help you find your story and the
supporting anecdotes that make your essay stand out. If you
don't know where to start, start here

As someone who works privately with students, helping them with admissions
essays for MBA programs, I highly recommend this book. When students call me in
regard to assistance with their essays, I recommend that they first buy this
book as a means to get started. The guidelines and essays have helped my clients
not only to gather their thoughts, but also to organize and write them into
interesting and creative essays. |
|
|
This book also describes how to outline the paper and begin
writing, and thus should be required for any class trying to
teach students how to construct a research paper. The authors
take students through each step of the essay, explaining how
to write an introduction, thesis paragraph, the body of the
paper, and the conclusion. |

This book helped me come up with essays that ultimately led to
my acceptance at all 12 schools to which I applied (two of
which are IVY league schools and all of which are ranked by US
News at within the top 50 Doctoral Universities in the
Nation)! I honestly don't think I would have had a chance had
it not been for this book!

Revised and brought up to date with new essays from over 50
popular colleges, this book guides college applicants
step-by-step through the essay-writing process. The author
advises on how to choose a topic, make a rough draft, then
polish and edit the writing into an essay that conveys the
student's personality, interests, and thinking. |

The book is well organized and has interesting topics. My
favorite was the chapter of essays gone wrong, and the
intelligent discussion of what went wrong with them. My
daughter spent hours on the writing exercises--though she
hates her writing about herself--and I think they helped her. |

Before you actually sit down to write your college application
essays, you may feel as if no one had ever been asked to
complete such an important and difficult task. This book will
solve your above problem. |

A really excellent book and the best I've ever read on
the subject. Takes you step by step through structuring an
essay with helpful guidelines and useful exercises throughout. |

I've read several books on the college application process and
it is clear that the essay plays a major role in determining
whether or not an applicant is accepted. Mr. Bauld has written
an entertaining, informative and very easy-to-read book that
is also thankfully short. No long-winded, self-congratulatory
filler here! It gets right to the point and is generous with
excellent examples. Brilliant and inspiring. |

These newly revised editions are perfect for any applicant
stumped by or anxious about writing a personal statement. The
essays are inspiring, and the advice is frank and fresh. The
authors did a great job of updating these classics, and I
highly recommend them to anyone applying to college, law
school, business school, or med school. |
